DEPUTIES RELEASE PHOTO TO AID IN SEARCH FOR MISSING WOMAN
Four days
after a convicted sex offender committed suicide while under criminal
investigation, Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies still have found no sign of the
man’s girlfriend. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Case Unit are
continuing to search for 42-year-old Jacqueline Delrey,
but so far haven’t turned up any clues to the whereabouts of the woman or her
1994 white, four-door BMW.
Investigators have been looking for Delrey since Monday. That’s when they went to a home on Old New York Avenue near DeLand where she lived with 40-year-old Gerry Orr. A convicted sex offender, Orr was under investigation after another woman accused him of sexual battery and false imprisonment. Deputies went to the home shortly after noon on Monday to serve a search warrant as part of the sexual battery investigation. But just as deputies began arriving, Orr shot himself. Deputies found Delrey’s purse, her dog and the license plate from her vehicle at the house, but no sign of the woman. A neighbor told investigators that Orr had sold his girlfriend’s car, but deputies haven’t been able to confirm the story or locate the vehicle. They also haven’t spoken to anyone who has seen Delrey since sometime around July 13.
Delrey is 5’1” and has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 736-5999.

WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER MAKING FALSE ABDUCTION CLAIM
A 54-year-old Ormond Beach woman who claimed to be the victim of an abduction at the hands of a knife-wielding attacker is in jail after Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators discovered that the woman’s story was just that -- a story.
Vicki Teneyck claimed that while traveling along U.S. 1 near Ormond Beach Thursday night, she pulled to the side of the road because her nose started to bleed. While opening her car door to get out, Teneyck said a man emerged and asked her if she was O.K., but then pulled out a knife, forced his way into her car and ordered her to drive from bank to bank to withdraw money. The woman said that she finally managed to get away from her attacker on Friday morning, when she drove to the Ormond Beach Police Department to report the crime. The Sheriff’s Office was called in to investigate because the alleged crimes occurred outside the city. Due to the seriousness of the allegations, several patrol deputies and investigators along with an Ormond Beach victim’s advocate immediately got involved. However, while interviewing the woman, deputies quickly discovered discrepancies in her story.
After investigators unraveled the tale, Teneyck admitted making up the episode in an effort to conceal the fact that she had been stealing money from her mother’s bank account to buy drugs. Investigators arrested Teneyck and charged her with filing a false report. According to Florida statutes, the charge is upgraded to a felony because Teneyck falsely claimed to have been the victim of a capital felony.

News Alert:
Law enforcement authorities late Thursday afternoon made the safe recovery of a 6-year-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert out of Wildwood, FL. Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies on alert for Karmen Barfield -- the little girl who reportedly was the victim of a parental abduction -- spotted her father’s Ford pickup truck in the vicinity of Graves Avenue in Orange City. Officers had staked out the area because the girl’s father, Chance Barfield, has relatives in Orange City. The pickup truck was occupied, but not by the girl or her father.
A follow-up investigation by Volusia County deputies and Orange City police led officers to a nearby residence at 226 Edwards Ave. in Orange City. Officers entered the home to search for the girl and found the two hiding in the attic of the house.
Chance Barfield has been taken into custody and is being held for Wildwood authorities. The girl was unharmed. Several others at the house who hindered the investigation also have been detained and are facing criminal charges.

Surveillance video of the robbery can be downloaded from:
http://www.volusia.org/sheriff/press/Video%20Downloads/default.htm
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman who robbed a convenience store near Daytona Beach Sunday afternoon. Investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating 19-year-old Johneschia Allen, who is now wanted on two arrest warrants: robbery with a firearm and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any tips that lead to Allen’s arrest.
The robbery happened at Kelly’s Food Mart, 1000 Derbyshire Road. Allen had entered the store, pointed a gun at the clerk and ordered her to place the cash drawer on the counter. The 50-year-old woman complied, and Allen then pulled cash out of it, grabbed some tobacco products that were nearby and fled the store on foot.
Investigators reviewed the surveillance tape that captured the crime and also obtained a good description of the robber from the clerk. She had recognized the robber as a customer who came in almost daily, but she didn’t know her name. Once the suspect description circulated in the Sheriff’s Office, a school resource deputy who had dealt with Allen a few times at her school identified the woman. Investigators then took a photo lineup to the store clerk who quickly picked out Allen.
Allen is about 5’4” and 175 pounds with noticeable acne on her face and a large nose. Anyone with information about Allen’s whereabouts is asked to call Investigator Richard Graves at (386) 323-0151 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Tipsters can also provide information by texting “TIP231 plus the message” to CRIMES. Anyone who provides information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.

DEPUTIES INVOLVED IN SHOOTING WHILE AT DOMESTIC CALL
A domestic quarrel in Deltona late Wednesday afternoon ended in gunfire, with a man shooting his wife in the arm and then firing into the air as responding Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies tried to quell the fracas. About an hour into the call, the armed man -- 48-year-old Clayton Gonsalves -- advanced on deputies and they opened fire to defend themselves. Gonsalves was struck at least once and was airlifted by a Sheriff’s Office helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment. His wife, 45-year-old Sislyn Gonsalves, was transported to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City for treatment of a gunshot wound to the left arm.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene at 2820 Lake Helen Osteen Road after yelling and screaming could be heard during a 911 call that came from the house at 4:43 p.m. After the call disconnected, dispatchers called back and spoke to a female who said that her father had just shot her mother and that everyone except the father had fled the house and gone down the road to seek safety. Deputies began arriving a few minutes later to try to resolve the conflict, but Clayton Gonsalves walked around the backyard of his house and at one point emerged from behind a shed and fired a round into the air. Deputies took cover and quickly cordoned off the neighborhood as a safety precaution while crisis negotiators responded to try to talk to the man. Shortly before 6 p.m., members of the Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT Team moved in to position to replace patrol units in the inner perimeter in order to enable the patrol units to pull back and reposition themselves. That’s when Gonsalves emerged and advanced on SWAT deputies, ignored their commands to drop his weapon and pointed it at deputies. Deputies on the SWAT Team then fired to protect themselves.
The incident remains under investigation. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement also will be brought in to investigate, which is customary in officer-involved shootings.
