1946: Robert Moses
Creates
Long Island State Park Police
After the New York State Park
Commission was first created in 1902, New York State Police had
responsibility for patrolling parks and parkways. According to Major
Richard O’Donnell of the New York State Park Police, in 1946, Long Island
State Parks Commission President Robert Moses created the Long Island
State Park Police Department to patrol Long Island’s parks. In 1950, the
name changed to the Long Island State Parkway Police to reflect its added
responsibility of patrolling the parkways in addition to the parks. In
1980, New York State Police assumed responsibility for the state parkways,
while the New York State Park Police maintained responsibility for the
parks. Located at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon, the New York
State Park Police currently patrols 25,000 acres of parkland in Nassau and
Suffolk Counties. Parkway Police Officer Michael T. Capasso is shown here
in an undated photo.

Don Berry and Sgt. Polito.
I wonder if this is the auto accident where a suicide note was found
within the car, and when police went to the address for notification
found the house on fire. If this is the same incident, did the family
perish in the home? poimages@cfl.rr.com
