Hello - Thanks for posting pictures of my father's funeral. It's still a bit of a mystery how you got them, who took them and why, but it was great to see them. Please send our thanks to the Ivers (young and old). I'm so impressed that they were able to identify the pictures so accurately - just a couple of little corrections. My dad was John O'Halleran, but everyone called him Jack, the boy in the picture next to the widow Tena and parents Patrick and Kate O'Halleran is John, he was 14 at the time and the oldest son. Michael and I aren't in the picture. It was December 1972 and yes, the church burnt down shortly after.

My father directed me to your webpage a year or so ago. I check it from time to time and enjoy looking at the old pictures. You recently posted some funeral pictures.

The church looks like St. Bernard's Chruch on Hempstead Tpke in Levittown. The church had a fire in 1970 or so, I'm not sure if the pictures are before of after the fire. Even looking at the limo in front it's difficult to say what year it is.

The other shots of the Color Guard appear to be taken behind Daltons Funeral Home, also on Hempstead Tpke in Levittown.

After looking closely at the pictures, particularly the photo showing the funeral party exiting the church, and also the photo of the family receiving the flag at the cemetery, I believe this occasion was the funeral of Ptl. John O'Halleran, who was best known as being the long time mounted police officer at Hempstead Lake State Park. The woman receiving the flag, wearing the bandana, looks very much like his widow, Teena, and the young man sitting on her right looks like their son, Eric. The family lived in Levittown, not far from our home.

I guess that most of them, if not all, are from Newsday.

Regarding this photograph. The date was the Thirtieth Anniversary of Jones Beach and taken in 1959. My wife purchased a book, "Jones Beach" An Illustrated History in which this photo was included in the book. The book is full of photographs and history from its beginning in 1929.It was printed by, "The Globe Pequot Press" P.O. Box 480uilford, CT.06437. www.GlobePequot.com It is a very interesting book. Just thought I would add the information to the photo.

Here is an old Parkway MVA I found in my archives. This accident occurred in 1971

on Wolf Hill Road and the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills. I believe that the top car came off the parkway bridge and landed on top of the car below on Wolf Hill Road, killing the occupant. Dix Hills Fire Department units responded to the scene along with the Parkway Police.

My name is Tom Kenney Jr. My father, Tom Sr. was a Parkway cop from about 1960 till he retired in 1976.

I found your POI web site while reading thru another web site and saw you collect pictures from the old Parkway Police. I have attached a scan of an old Polaroid picture from March 1960 of my dad standing next to his radio car. No idea where the shot was taken though.

The other pic I've attached is a pic of some of the ex parkway guys who attended my father's wake in 2003. Their names are embedded on the photo.
