The new Lifeguard Tower
Dunlawton Ave.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
March 6, 2004 - Dunlawton approach to the beach.
The building next to the restrooms will be a new Lifeguard facility
and the poles are for the new control lookout tower
and dispatch services
for the Dunlawton Life Guard Station crew.
When completed the old structure will be torn down.

Phyllis Ave. stairs to the beach is about 1/2 mile south of
Dunlawton Ave., on A1A. The public parking lot adjoins the Sun Glow Pier
parking lot. May 17, 2003.
A shower is provided at the top of the stairs.
In the shade of the pier.
These stairs are the approach to and from the Sunglow Pier.
-----------------------------------------
Demotte Ave approach is usually closed to vehicle traffic, but
has spaces for parking and it is a short walk to the beach. One
block south of Dunlawton approach. May 17, 2003.

Larry J. Fornari, Sr., Park - Daytona Shores - A1A, about 6 blocks north
of Dunlawton Ave., on Simpson Street. - May 10, 2003,
temperature about 92 degrees. So hot I forgot to take pictures of the
wooden benches on top of the stairs overlooking the beach and ocean.
- Small parking lot.
- In the background are; outside shower, picnic table and bench, and rest rooms.
Any vehicles that park to the left of the wooden pole markers are subject to
fines. That area is reserved for turtles. Some portions of the beach
are closed to vehicles, because of where the turtles like to nest.
Strangely, they like to nest in front of the grand Ocean Walk Hotel, the
magnificent Adams Mark hotel, and the luxurious condos in Ponce Inlet.
Turtles are not too keen to nest on the south side of the Main Street Pier, or
on both sides of Sunglow pier. Perhaps they smell the turtle soup cooking
in the restaurants on said piers? In any case, conveniently, you can drive
your car onto the beach and park on the sand near those pier restaurants.
Port Orange residents can drive their cars on the nearest beach access to the
city on Dunlawton Ave. Somehow, the turtles are not too keen to make their homes
where probably the majority of Port Orange residents enjoy the beach. Save the
turtles, damn the people!
