V1 DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO FLORIDA HOSPITAL DELAND AND THEN TRANSPORTED TO HALIFAX MEDICAL CENTER IN DAYTONA BEACH WITH CRITICAL INJURIES.

V1 WAS TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON I-95. THE RIGHT, REAR TIRE SEPARATED AND V1 DRIVER LOST CONTROL. THE RIGHT SIDE OF V1 STRUCK A GAURDRAIL AND THEN OVERTURNED TWO TIME. SOME OF THE CHILDREN WERE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. AT THIS TIME WE ARE CONFIRMING HOW MANY WERE EJECTED AND HOW MANY WERE WEARING SEATBELTS. THE CRASH REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION AND CHARGES ARE PENDING. THE FATALITY IS THE SON OF THE DRIVER.

Narrative:
Vehicle 1 was eastbound on State Road 46 in the middle lane. Vehicle 2 was westbound on State Road 46 in the left turning lane. Vehicle 1 ran the red traffic signal and struck the right side of vehicle 2 as vehicle 2 was turning left across the intersection. Driver 1 was ejected across the windshield of vehicle 2 and landed unto the roadway. Driver 1 was transported to the hospital and later pronounce deceased. The crash remains under investigation.

ON 09/14/2009 AT APPROXIMATELY 8:42 PM MR SMITH WAS SOUTHBOUND IN THE LEFT LANE ON I-95 BETWEEN THE 219 AND 218 MILE MARKER. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES THE DRIVER APPEARED TO BE REACHING DOWN FOR SOMETHING AND DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT. HE THEN TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT SHARPLY GOING INTO THE MEDIAN. MR. SMITH DROVE BACK ONTO THE ROADWAY BUT THEN WENT BACK INTO THE MEDIAN. HIS VEHICLE STARTED TO OVERTURN IN THE MEDIAN (APPROXIMATELY 8 TIMES ACCORDING TO WITNESSES) COMING TO FINAL REST IN THE MEDIAN FACING WEST. THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED FROM THE PASSENGER WINDOW. HE WAS AIRLIFTED TO HOLMES REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER UNDER TRAUMA ALERT WHERE HE WAS EVENTUALLY PRONOUNCED DECEASED AT 01:55 ON 09/15/2009.
