RESIDENTIAL FIRE
5669 WOOD ST., PORT ORANGE, FL.
Cathy McNa visited the location where
the trailer home
burned down late Easter Sunday, March
23, 2008
Cathy took the following images on
March 24, 2008
and makes some comments.
=================================
This picture I thought would show the hope that shall be
bestowed upon this family as it is Mother Mary and survived the fire
almost in tact.
I went to Wood St and met with the sister of
the homeowner, Mitzi and her husband Eric who showed me around the whole
house. It was quite amazing that four vehicles were completely
destroyed including a Corvette. Unscathed was some plastic containers
that carry baby wipes. Even the children's toys in the back yard were
melted along with the recycle bin. The house to the left of the house
had melted the siding and on the other side of the house the fence,
trees were destroyed and there was also considerable damage to the
outside of the house. Mitzi told me that they have not been able to
locate their two cats and one hamster did not survive.

I also spoke with several neighbors and I must
disagree with their comments at this time because I cannot believe that
it took the first engine 20 minutes to get on scene. I do understand
that there was a problem with the fire hydrant but, most of the
witnesses stated that it would not have made a difference as the house
was fully engulfed by the time the fire department was on scene.

The neighbor that called 911 first advised me
that he could not call on his land line phone because by this time the
phone lines were already destroyed by the fire so he had to find his
cell phone. When he called he was standing outside and the fire was so
intense that he could barely breathe. He also stated he could hear the
people screaming and windows blowing out on the other side of the
house. He and his family were almost overcome by smoke and were so
relieved that the Fire Chief was telling the firefighters to save his
house. All in all he was very happy that everyone made it out and hopes
that the families cats are all right. --- Cathy McNa
