Port Orange Images Photo Magazine on Line The Port Orange Bridge, Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange, Fl.

Halifax Drive, the location where the River Walk is expected to be located. ------------------------------------------------------- Dunlawton Bridge - 2002 Image 1 - What I call the Dunlawton bridge is actually the William V. Chappell Jr. Memorial Bridge. This image looks west from Peninsular Dr. There were two bridges before this modern structure was built. The first one was built in 1906 and made of sable palm pilings and pine bridge timbers. A second wooden toll bridge was built in 1951. This information is from the book , PORT ORANGE, A Great Community, volume 1, by Harold D. Cardwell, Sr. and Priscilla D. Cardwell. I suggest you purchase the book and read about the histories of the bridge including an amusing story of how the youngsters use to beat the 5 cents toll. To purchase the book phone 386 788 2143. -------------------------------------------------------------------
